James Wilkins served as a private, a sergeant, and a quartermaster in Colonel Winn's regiment. He served under captain Turner. He was wounded at the defeat of Charleston, Charleston, South Carolina. He came to Christian County Kentucky in 1804. In May of 1847 there were four living children left: William, Isabella Mock, Mary Woodburn, and Hugh B., a Justice of the Peace in Todd County Kentucky. Some of the younger children were baptized at the Purity Church, Chester District, Chester, South Carolina.
The father James was in service most of the time in Charleston, Charleston, South Carolina in the Artillery Regiment. He served from early 1780 until the end of the war, three years in South Carolina, in the Regimental Line and in the Militia.

Elizabeth White Wilkins states in her application for James Wilkins Revolutionary War Pension that James died on the 6th day of March 1824. His gravestone also gives his death year as 1824, but his probate record for his estate indicates that he died in 1823.

A newer marker has been added for James Wilkins at the Mobley - Wilkins Cemetery, Todd County, Kentucky, where his wife, Elizabeth White Wilkins, was buried. He was not buried there, but was instead buried at Goshen Church Cemetery in Todd County, Kentucky. The two cemeteries are both located off of Goshen Road, Todd County, Kentucky, and are a little less than a mile apart.
Wilkins, James Mobley - Wilkins Cemetery, Todd County, Kentucky. Located East of Fairview, Christian County, Kentucky. Turn North off of Highway 68 onto Goshen Road. Cemetery is about 1/10 of a mile on the West side of the road.
