Wise Jr.'s birth date is listed as 4 Feb 1843 on his death certificate, and in his obituary it is listed as 23 Mar 1854. But yet, in the obituary his age is listed as 86, so more than likely the 4 Feb 1843 date is accurate.

- John J. Wise was a Corporal in the Civil War from 1864 to 1866. He served with Company E, 25th Ohio Infantry.
- At the funeral for John J. Wise, Jr. there was a bouquet of flowers that had been sent by Colonel M. F. Miles. Colonel Miles was a war time comrade who had died a few months earlier. He had left money for the flowers to be sent to the funeral of the last veteran of Wayne County, Ohio.
