After the death of Daniel, Levi enlisted in the Civil War at the age of 43.

Notes
Daniel was only 17 years old when he enlisted. He was mustered into service on 22 Feb 1862. He was a drummer in the 103rd Regiment of the Pennsylvania Infantry. He died on 4 Apr 1862 of typhoid fever, while in Alexandria Virginia. The incubation period for typhoid fever is 8 to 14 days. He had to have contracted the disease in his first few days of service.
