    • In June 1840, John Cobb, the administrator for Martin M. Mims's estate, states that Susannah W. Brooks Mims, the widow of Martin M. Mims, has died. He is petitioning the court to be allowed to sell a "a small negro slave by the name of Betty" in order to provide the proceeds to the six children of Martin M. and Susannah W. Brooks Mims.

    Notes 
    • Many researchers have the six children of Martin M. Mims and Susannah W. Brooks Mims as being the children of Thomas Bannister Mims and Sarah Unknown Mims. This is not correct. Martin M. Mims and Susannah W. Brooks Mims children are all listed in the settlement of John Wright Mims Sr.'s estate along with their court appointed guardian, Richard Jones. Also, on the death certificate of their daughter, Sarah Frances "Sally" Mims Summers, her parents are listed as Martin Mims and Amanda Brooks.
